WPD Portable: Files, System Changes, and Removal

WPD is distributed as a portable ZIP. That describes how the application is delivered; it does not mean that changes made to Windows disappear when you delete its folder.

Keep the complete extracted folder

The bundled ZIP contains WPD.exe, Constructor.json, Localization.json, and README.txt. Extract the archive rather than opening the executable inside a compressed-folder preview. Keep the support files with the executable and use a location you can find again when you need to review or undo changes.

Separate application files from Windows configuration

ActionWhat to expect
Move the extracted folderChanges where you launch the program; does not restore earlier Windows settings.
Delete the extracted folderRemoves those files; is not a rollback of policies, services, or firewall changes.
Use a recorded prior settingLets you reverse a specific configuration change and verify the result.

Portable also does not mean “leaves no traces” or “needs no administrator permission.” Treat system-wide configuration changes as persistent until you have checked otherwise.

Before removing WPD

  1. Review the changes you applied and decide which ones you intend to keep.
  2. Restore unwanted changes using your log, then test the affected Windows features.
  3. Save your settings record somewhere outside the WPD folder.
  4. Delete the program folder only when you no longer need its controls or bundled documentation.

Questions and answers

Does uninstalling WPD restore the Windows defaults?

Deleting this portable folder does not undo settings that were changed in Windows.

Can I run the same folder from a USB drive?

Portable delivery does not establish that every machine is compatible. Check each device, and avoid applying one PC’s saved state to another without review.
