Windows 10 Privacy Settings: Legacy-PC Checklist
Windows 10 privacy controls are under Settings → Privacy. Review them as individual preferences, and handle operating-system support separately: a privacy checklist is not a substitute for security updates.

Review the controls that exist on your PC
- Record the Windows 10 edition and build with winver. Check the current support or extended-update arrangement for that edition.
- Open Settings → Privacy → Diagnostics & feedback and review the diagnostic-data choice shown on your build.
- Review Camera, Microphone, and Location only for apps and features you recognize. Keep access needed for calls or accessibility.
- Inspect General for advertising-ID and related personalization choices. These do not control every browser advertisement.
- Review individual application and browser settings separately; not all desktop permissions appear in the Windows privacy lists.
Account for an aging configuration
A Windows 10 PC may have settings inherited from several feature updates or multiple utilities. Record the effective value in Windows instead of assuming that an old screenshot or saved preset still represents the machine. If settings are managed, establish who controls them before trying to override them.
Test the work the PC must still do
Use a short set of real tasks: install an available update, open a required document, make a test call, and confirm a backup or sync operation. Record a failure before making another change. Where a legacy control is absent, do not recreate it with an unexplained registry download.
Questions and answers
Does this guide extend Windows 10 support?
No. It concerns privacy preferences; Microsoft’s lifecycle and extended-update terms are separate.
Why are some choices different from Windows 11?
The Settings interface and supported features depend on the operating-system version, edition, and installed updates.
